BEGS 22 JUL 12

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG, 25th. June, 1912.
129
Sir.
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
your Despatch No. 135 of 7th. May, and to inform you that I agree
in the desirability of adding to the Hongkong Pension Linute a clause providing for the grant under certain conditions of gratuitî- -es to llurses or Certificated Women Teachers who resign their appointments on or with a view to marriage.
2.
I am, however, of opinion that the privilege should in fairness be extended to other female employees of the Government provided that they are on the pensionable establish- -ment of the Colony. I enclose in this connection a list of the female employees of this Government on which I have marked with a red 'C' the certificated women teachers, and I shall be glad to learn whether you approve of the extension of the privilege to the whole list.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Clanstever
Officer Administering the Government.

LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P..
